German-Israeli Professional Exchange Program
Young people from Israel and Germany share the quest for identity in increasingly diversified and pluralistic societies. Youth educators from both countries daily face the challenges of how to encourage a more diverse and equal youth representation in their fields of work. Haifa as a “mixed city” is an exceptional place for a better understanding of the dynamic of different expressions of identities. Their cross-cultural encounters unfold issues of language and power, minority and majority, gender, periphery and center, discrimination and inclusive practices for participation.
In August 2016 educators from Germany and Israel took part in a professional exchange program in Berlin as part of the project “Living Diversity in Germany and Israel – Challenges and Perspectives for Education and Youth Exchange”. As a follow-up of this seminar, the Israel Youth Exchange Authority and ConAct invite professionals and youth work facilitators engaged in diversity-conscious education to participate in the second part of this program which will take place in Haifa, Israel.
The participating educators will have the chance to:
- Engage with experts from both countries in topics of identity and co-existence in a multicultural society.
- Exchange on expertise and methods for the matter of diversity-conscious youth education.
- Take part in local study visits and gain inspiration for new working practices and a foundation for possible cooperation projects in the future.
- Engage in a “hands-on” experience of life in diversity, using the special character of the city of Haifa and other unique parts of northern Israel as a living platform for exchange.
Please note: The program language will be English. Selected parts of the program may possibly be translated simultaneously (Hebrew–German).

November 27 – December 1, 2017
For German participants: preparation seminar on November 26, 2017 as a compulsory part of the program.

Who?
This Professional Exchange Program is addressed to professionals of youth education in Germany and Israel as well as active professionals in German-Israeli youth exchange projects.
Participation fee is:
250 EUR for participants from Germany
400 NIS for participants from Israel
It includes travel costs, accommodation and full board for the entire program. Participants from Israel will receive a flight reimbursement of 260 Euros. The flights will be reserved by the inviting organizations.

The project “Living Diversity in Germany and Israel” is implemented by ConAct – Coordination Center German-Israeli Youth Exchange in cooperation with the Israel Youth Exchange Authority.
